Attending the ceremony
Graduates and their guests are invited to several Commencement events, starting with the MD Pre-Commencement ceremony Thursday evening. On Friday, graduates may walk in the all-university ceremony on the Danforth Campus, as well as the MD recognition ceremony in downtown St. Louis.
The MD ceremony
The Doctor of Medicine Commencement Recognition Ceremony begins at 3 p.m. in the Ferrara Theater of America’s Center, located in downtown St. Louis. We advise against using the “main entrance” to the America’s Center on Washington Avenue as it will require a long walk to the Ferrara Theater.
Entering the America’s Center through the Convention Plaza / N. 7th Street entrance, the Ferrara Theater is immediately to your left. Family and guests should select their seats while graduates proceed to Room 260, the staging room for graduates and faculty.
Beginning with an Academic Processional, the administration and faculty will move to the stage and the graduates to their reserved seating in the center section of the orchestra level. The program will include an address by a Keynote Speaker (TBD). This is followed by presentations of the Teachers of the Year Award, individual awarding of the diploma to each graduate, and comments by the Dean, Associate Dean, and President of the Class of 2019. The program concludes with the recessional.
Family and guests are invited to join the graduates and faculty in the second floor atrium for a reception, hosted by the School of Medicine and Washington University Medical Center Alumni Association, from 5-6 p.m.
Drive safely and defensively. It is rush-hour traffic on Friday and there will be extra traffic due to the Cardinals baseball game which begins at 7:15 p.m.
