Ceremonies & Reception
Washington University Commencement is held on a Friday in mid-May each year. The Doctor of Medicine program kicks off the celebration the previous night with a reception for graduates and their families and guests.
Guests visiting from out of town are encouraged to reserve travel and lodging accommodations early, ideally in the fall.

Friday, May 15, 2020: Commencement day
MD graduates attend the all-university ceremony Friday morning on the Danforth Campus, as well as a separate Commencement Recognition Ceremony, at which each MD candidate is recognized, later that afternoon in downtown St. Louis.
There is no limit to the number of guests you may invite to either ceremony, though severe weather may limit attendance for some guests at the all-university ceremony.
A reception, hosted by the Washington University Medical Center Alumni Association, follows the MD Recognition Ceremony. While the reception will conclude Commencement events, graduates and families may wish to plan their own festivities and make reservations for that evening.
